Product Recall on Organic Bulk Walnuts

Posted May 1, 2024

At the Co-op, ensuring the safety and well-being of our shoppers is our foremost priority. With this commitment in mind, we want to inform you about a potential food safety concern related to organic bulk walnuts (please note: this does not include conventional walnuts) under investigation for potential E. coli contamination.

Here's what you need to know:

The product in question is bulk organic walnut halves and pieces (PLU 1451) sourced from "Gibson Farms Inc", distributed between October 1, 2023 – April 24, 2024. As of now, there have been no confirmed cases of E. coli O157:H7 infections linked to any products sold at the Co-op.

We were notified by our distributor about this voluntary recall on Monday, April 29. At that time, we did not have the impacted lot number on hand. Out of an abundance of caution, we immediately discarded the product and sanitized the affected bins and scoops.

On Tuesday, April 30, we were notified that our store was shipped walnuts with the affected lot number at some point during the dates listed above.

Please discard any bulk organic walnuts purchased at our Co-op between October 1, 2023 – April 29. As recommended by the FDA, we urge you to sanitize any container you used to store these walnuts.

The FDA recommends contacting your healthcare provider if you think you may have symptoms of an E. coli infection after eating organic walnuts. If you consumed the affected product recently and are experiencing symptoms of an E. Coli infection, we recommend contacting the Gallatin County Health Department at 406-582-3100.
