In the United States, 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, with over half of those cases occurring in women over 60. Here in the Gallatin Valley, 25% of those diagnosed with breast cancer are women under 50. The CDC recommends regular mammograms starting at age 40, but many women only get tested every other year or wait until symptoms appear. While mammograms can’t prevent breast cancer, early detection offers a 100% five-year survival rate.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month, established in October 1985, highlights the importance of mammograms and funds critical research. Here in Bozeman, Cancer Support Community Montana is leading the charge in raising awareness and helping locals access screenings and other vital resources.
This October, you can make a difference while doing your grocery shopping. For every bottle of rosé purchased at our Co-op locations, $1 will be donated to Cancer Support Community Montana, directly supporting their work in our community.
Cancer is a daunting battle, but together, we can make that fight a little easier for those affected.
