Full-time position available. Working 5 days a week, exempt schedule. Having schedule flexibility is expected, covering the needs of the business as they arise.
Purpose: Manage all aspects of Front End operations and staff at Co-op Downtown (CDT) with a focus on creating exceptional customer experiences. Ensure effective and efficient department operations; promote excellent service, accuracy, safety, and a positive, supportive work environment. Work closely with the Store Manager and Kitchen Manager to meet objectives for sales, margins, labor, and service, consistent with organizational goals.
Supervises: Front End Shift Supervisor, Cashiers

Specific Responsibilities of CDT Front End Service Manager
Staff Management and Support
- Provide motivation, direction, and feedback to Front End Shift Supervisor(s) and Cashiers; ensure standards for service, product quality, and productivity are met.
- Ensure consistency of accountability practices in the Front End Department.
- Oversee Front End coverage/emergencies along with manager(s) on duty; fill shifts as needed for emergencies.
- Oversee implementation of staff training and development plans, scheduling, and other identified priorities.
Planning
- Collaborate with CDT managers and others throughout the organization to plan, develop, implement, and ensure ongoing, effective, and coordinated systems and procedures at CDT and between CDT and other Co-op functions.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of other CDT departments sufficient to direct operations in the absence of another department’s manager.
- Collaborate and coordinate with the CWM security team to maintain security of the building, equipment, inventory, staff, and customers, including shoplifting, security, and store solutions training for staff.
Cashiering
- Ensure that customers are served in prompt, friendly, and courteous manner.
- Cashier as needed, maintaining a high level of service, quality, and accuracy.
- Ensure training on, understanding of, and compliance with state and federal regulations and laws related to alcohol sales, SNAP benefits, and other processes and issues relevant to cashiering.
- Maintain current shift checklists, tools, and workflows.
- Ensure all Front End staff adhere to food safety and sanitation guidelines of the GCC Health Department.
- Ensure staff have access to, and understand Co-op promotions, including sales flyers, Food E News, coupons, and other marketing-related materials.
Cash Accuracy and Security Systems
- Work with the CDT Store Manager, IT, Finance and Security Specialist to:
- Maintain and improve accurate systems; monitor and coach staff on cash over/shorts.
- Ensure security and accuracy of cash.
- Maintain security of the store, ensuring that opening and closing security procedures are followed.
- Follow the protocols for handling shoplifters, disorderly customers, and other emergencies, providing leadership as needed.
Merchandising, Receiving, and Stocking
- Ensure staff properly receive all orders and maintain fully stocked, clean, and adequately rotated shelves/coolers.
- Work closely with Purchasers and Kitchen Manager to ensure proper inventory management and rotation.
Other
- Oversee cleaning tasks, maintenance, and upkeep of grocery shelves, coolers, and dining area equipment and fixtures.
- Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns; report to others who need to know or help. Prioritize proper functioning and prompt repairs to the point-of-sale.
- Meet with CDT Store Manager to regularly review and prepare work plans.
- Regularly meet with CDT Managers to assess and adjust production and staffing to meet sales levels.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience that demonstrates the aptitude to successfully meet all expectations listed above required.
- Experience managing staff required, preferably in a food service or retail setting.
- Knowledge of proper food handling procedures preferred.
- Experience working with email and MS Office software sufficient to communicate, and to prepare reports with accuracy and in a timely manner desired.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business; some early mornings, evenings, holidays, and weekend shifts required.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. throughout shift, occasionally 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand for long periods, bend, and twist repeatedly; ability to lift product overhead and/or to climb ladders with product.
