Job Location: Co-op West Main
Salary: $24.00 - HOUR

Full time position available. Sunday-Thursday workweek with a mix of opening, mid and closing shifts.

Purpose: Assist with the management of the Center Store department with a focus on creating exceptional customer experiences. Additional focus areas include personnel management, cashiering, cash handling, scheduling, and security. Ensure effective and efficient department operations, and promote a safe, positive, and supportive work environment for staff.

Specific Responsibilities of Center Store Assistant Manager

Assist Department Manager in the following responsibilities:

Staff Management and Support

  • Provide motivation, direction, and feedback to staff to ensure that standards for service, product quality, and productivity are met.
  • Consistently monitor staff attendance and punctuality, report deviations to Center Store Manager, and follow up with staff according to the Center Store policy.
  • Act as main point of contact for Center Store coverage/emergencies along with manager on duty; fill shifts as needed for emergencies and cover requests.
  • Schedule one-on-one meetings with staff as necessary.
  • Develop and implement plans according to the focus area(s) set by the Center Store Manager (examples may include staff training plans, scheduling, etc.)

Customer Service and Cashiering

  • Cashier as needed, maintaining a high level of service and accuracy.
  • Assist with training on, understanding of, and compliance with all other state and federal regulations related to alcohol sales, SNAP benefits, and other processes and issues relevant to cashiering.
  • Assist in the oversight of Co-Go and Special Order systems; work Co-Go shifts and assist with order management as needed.

Cash Accuracy and Security Systems

Work with Center Store Manager, Finance Staff, and Security Specialist to:

  • Maintain and suggest improvements to accuracy systems; monitor and coach staff on cash over/shorts.
  • Ensure security and accuracy of cash.
  • Maintain security of the Center Store, ensuring that opening and closing security procedures are followed.
  • Follow the protocols for handling of shoplifters, disorderly customers, and other emergencies, providing leadership as needed.

Other Responsibilities

  • Assist in troubleshooting equipment breakdowns; report to others who need to know or help. Prioritize proper functioning and prompt repairs to cash registers.
  • Assist in the maintenance of Center Store policies, communication log, and department phone list.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience that demonstrates the ability or aptitude to successfully meet all expectations listed above required.
  • Experience supervising and managing staff desired, preferably in a retail setting.
  • Experience working with email and MS Office software sufficient to communicate, and to complete tasks with accuracy and in a timely manner required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business; some early mornings, evenings, holiday, and weekend shifts required.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. throughout shift, occasionally 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and to bend and twist repeatedly; ability to lift product overhead and/or to climb ladders with product.
