Leading Community Partner: Eagle Mount

May 10, 2016

Every spring, participants in Eagle Mount's horticulture program plant vegetable and flower seeds in raised gardening beds.

Throughout the summer and harvest season participants tend to the garden, enjoying some of the fresh bounty themselves and donating the rest to other Eagle Mount programs and the food bank. The raised beds offer participants in wheelchairs access and ability to work the soil as well as to improve manual dexterity.

In the past year, the program has doubled in size to allow for increased production.

Our Co-op is proud to support the gardening program, partnering with Eagle Mount as one our Leading Community Partners in our Deep Roots giving program.

In addition, we sponsor the aquatics program. Last year, more than 2,300 swimmers, ages 1 to 97, participated. The warm salt water pool provides the ideal environment for people with developmental disabilities to learn to swim and work on their strength and balance. In addition, YMCA provided 228 hours of swim lessons for area children.

From skiing to horseback riding, swimming and more, Eagle Mount offers year-round recreational opportunities for people with disabilities and young people with cancer, efforts that truly help strengthen and enrich our community.
