Dinner's on the Co-op Results
October 05, 2017
On Monday, October 2 our Co-op hosted dinner at the Community Cafe, Bozeman's only "pay what you can restaurant."
We were both humbled and excited when 321 people joined us for dinner. Guests enjoyed an Indian-inspired meal and helped us raise $3,415.50.
We are proud to support the Community Café because it is truly a community gathering place where everyone is welcome. The “pay what you can” model helps ensure that good food is available to all and plays a pivotal role in fighting food insecurity in our area.
We'd like to thank our sponsors Pioneer Meats and Root Cellar Foods as well as everyone who joined us for dinner. Co-op staff and members from our Board of Directors had a great time preparing food, washing dishes and serving our community.
This year, our support of the Cafe now totals more than $11,000.
In addition to money we helped raise at the dinner, we purchased 330 pounds of pork that we donated to the Cafe and are proud to be a "Dinner's On Us" title sponsor.
About the Dinner
The menu, prepared by Co-op Guest Chef Kelly Walunis, featured pork from hogs purchased by the Co-op at the 4-H Junior Livestock Market Sale. The hogs were raised by Lane and Sage Smart and Samantha Draeger. Pioneer Meats generously processed the animals free charge.
The hogs yielded 330 pounds of meat. About 80 pounds were used at the event. The remaining meat has been donated to the Community Cafe for other meals throughout the year.
From apples to jalapenos and cilantro, Root Cellar Foods donated more than 80 pounds of local fruits and vegetables for the dinner.
