At the Co-op: Locally-made Z’s Hummus

You may think you’ve had hummus before….but that was before you tried all-natural Z’s Hummus.

Here is a little background on me, Zeynep Martello. After immigrating to the United States about 22-years-ago my family fell in love with Bozeman and decided to move here. I grew up in a traditional household watching my mother, Asuman, cook a variety of delicious dishes.

After moving here, my mother built a business from her Middle Eastern roots. She tried a few ventures to showcase her food including restaurants, catering and special events. In 1994 she joined the Co-op team. You may remember her as the cooking talent on the Co-op staff. She helped bring delicious and international dishes to the deli and bakery including rich baklava, apple-pastry pogaca, colorful bean salad, sumptuous eggplant, tasty dolmas passed on to her by her grandmother, and finally, the most important, creamy hummus known as Z’s Hummus.

Having learned from the best, I used my mother’s delicious, third generation secrets to make Z’s Hummus. The business started out as a farmers’ market operation in 2006. After seeing the positive reaction at the farmers’ market I decided to package it and started to market this authentic product as soon as possible.

Z’s combines organic garbanzo beans (chickpeas) with natural ingredients to create a creamy, smooth, packed-with-flavor hummus like no other. You can taste the beans, the tahini and the garlic without any of the ingredients overwhelming one another.

Z’s comes in three flavors: Original, Red Pepper, and Cilantro Lime. Z’s will soon add a fourth creation, Cucumber Dill Humus. Our hummus is a healthy and wholesome substitute for mayonnaise on sandwiches and wraps. Z’s also makes for a great party dip with vegetables, crackers, or whatever you choose to use as a scoop. My traditional cuisine has gained a loyal following in Bozeman, and now you too can enjoy this irresistible gourmet food at the Community Food Co-op.
