Dear All,
I write as a concerned parent who feeds our children, a raiser of livestock (destined as FOOD), and someone who eats FOOD. Are you one of those?
Bisphenol A, or BPA, is a known synthetic estrogen. It can leach out of plastics due to abrasion or the acidity of a plastic container’s contents. Metal canned goods are all lined with plastic, which often contains BPA.
Excess estrogen disrupts sexual function in livestock and humans of all ages— especially the young. Excess estrogen promotes cancer, weight gain (it is used extensively to promote weight gain in conventional livestock!), and inflammatory problems such as arthritis, digestive trouble, and heart trouble. Our bodies are sensitive to synthetic hormones in infinitesimal amounts, far lower than the EPA measures.
Why should we accept these unwanted ingredients in our foods? The food industry uses BPA because it’s easy, not because it’s safe.
Read this important article, Chemicals in our Food, and Bodies, and make your own purchasing decision about how the food you buy should be packaged, if it should be packaged at all.
Remember, fresh, locally grown foods need little, if any, packaging.
