Amaltheia Receives 2009 Ecostar Award
Melvyn, Sue and Nathan Brown are pleased to announce that Amaltheia Organic Goat Dairy recently received the 2009 Ecostar Award, presented by Gov. Brian Schweitzer. This is the dairy’s second Ecostar Award.
Amaltheia is an organic goat dairy and cheese facility in Belgrade with a mission to utilize all by-products created in the cheese-making processes. Amaltheia composts the by-product manure to create a wonderful organic compost, and is now utilizing all whey (a by-product from the cheese-making endeavor) by feeding it to organic pigs.
The whey-fed pork is now available for sale, including at the Co-op. The new endeavors are overseen by Nathan Brown under the name Amaltheia Sustainable Concepts. The company is now pursuing alternative energy projects to fulfill its total sustainability mission.
